National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST) 1st Prize

2003

The National Museum of Contemporary Art is housed in one of the most important buildings in Greek Modern Architecture, the old FIX brewery, a work of architect Takis Zenetos. The past, as preserved in the FIX Building, could not of course be retained intact because then it would simply be a museum for the FIX Building. The fact that the building was constructed for another purpose and is now being transformed into a Museum of Contemporary Art means that the space carries within it the memories of the time at which it was created. From this juxtaposition of two purposes, one could say that something totally new is born. This project was with co-operation of mrs Kontozoglou in the preparation of the architectural design.
